Langsam to present lecture series

Local architectural historian Walter E. Langsam will present a series of lectures in conjunction with the Betts House Research Center exhibit Great Cincinnati Families at Home.

The lectures, featuring slide presentations of historic and contemporary views of the City's most notable homes, will focus on the architects and artists commissioned by the families featured in the exhibit, including the Taft, Probasco-Rowe, Hauck, and Huenefeld families.

Among the well-known architects and craftspeople to be highlighted are James K. Wilson, William Tinsley, James W. McLaughlin, Samuel Hannaford, Bruce Price, J.J. Rueckert, James Gilmore, Gwathmey/Siegel, the Fry and Pitman art-carvers, and the artists of the Rookwood Pottery.

The first lecture, featuring the Taft family, will be held June 14 at 11 AM at the Cincinnati Fire Museum, 315 W Court Street, Downtown.

Future lectures will be held on July 12 with the Probasco-Rowe family, September 20 with the Hauck family, and October 11 with the Huenefeld family.

Admission is $10 for the public and $5 for members of the Betts House or of the Cincinnati Fire Museum.

A subscription to all four lectures can be purchased for $30 by the public or for $15 by members.

Pre-registration is requested and can be done by calling (513) 651-0734 or by e-mailing BettsHouseRC@fuse.net.

Great Cincinnati Families at Home runs through October 31, and a second series of lectures is planned for 2009.
