The Duke Energy Garden, formerly known as the Main Street Garden, will feature lush plantings, large trees, walking paths, and 150 feet of granite seat walls. Twelve oversized porch swings will be suspended from undulating pergolas, giving visitors a relaxing view of river activity.
Duke Energy Ohio/Kentucky President Julie Janson presented a check to the Cincinnati Parks Foundation during a press conference yesterday morning.
"The Cincinnati riverfront is more than just an entryway into our community," Janson said. "It serves as the front porch to Ohio."
"The establishment of the Duke Energy Garden in Smale Riverfront Park is another such gift that will provide a stunning new public greenspace in Greater Cincinnati's grand new front yard," he said. "We are extremely grateful for their tremendous generosity."
Phase one of Smale Riverfront Park opened in May. Future phases will expand the park westward and will include a transient boat dock, a carousel, playgrounds, promenades, tree groves, and fountains.
