A recent article in Time profiles Andrés Duany, the Miami-based architect who has helped lead the New Urbanism movement with developments such as Seaside, Florida and Kentlands, Maryland. Duany and other adherents of New Urbanism take a holistic approach to the built environments, believing in medium-density, compact and walkable towns where one can live, work, eat and be entertained. And all of this could be accomplished without the use of a car. The average American only walks four minutes a day? Ouch.
