A recent issue of Utne Reader featured an article on Viking Terrace in Washington, Minnesota, an affordable housing complex that has been renovated to include many green building elements.

And while the residents may not even be aware of how the mechanicals work, they do notice the savings in their utility bills and in their improved health.

Examples like Viking Terrace prove that it can be done, and the idea that green housing development is exclusively for hippies or for the rich should be put to bed.
