NY Times: Presidential candidates ignore urban issues

A story by Clyde Haberman in the New York Times says that there have been more than two dozen Presidential debates, with no mention of urban issues.

Haberman points out that despite the fact that most of the candidates have held high positions within large cities, they have not offered any substantive policies on things like like housing, transportation, crime, education, Medicaid costs, homelessness, and crumbling infrastructure.

Mayor R. T. Rybak of Minneapolis said that what he desired “is for every presidential candidate to have an urban sensibility.”

“Urban America, to me, is really the future of America,” he said.
