Three-week EcoSculpt a competition, a showcase, and a message

Thirteen teams and individual artists spent last Friday installing works of art on Fountain Square, part of three week celebration of Earth Day.

The Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance EcoSculpt, a showcase and competition of original sculptures made from recycled and/or recyclable materials, is meant not only to brighten the Square with public art, but also to raise awareness about how we use – and re-use – our resources.

Artists were selected through an open application process.

On April 25 from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M., Fountain Square will hold a special awards ceremony for the artists, complete with music and eco-friendly vendors.

A team of three judges will award prizes in the amount of $500, $250, and $150 for the top three sculptures, based upon concept design, execution, and quality of construction. A special 2012 People's Choice Award winner, to be selected by the public via a survey on the Fountain Square website, will receive $100.

The art will remain on display through April 29.
