1840 Vinton Street, South Fairmount
Single-family
DOB: 1900
Died: July 2009
Cause of death: A defective and collapsing bay, defective framing on the rear wall, missing siding and sheathing leading to water damage, broken and missing windows, lack of protective paint.
It appears that the property owner was deceased and his son had been living in the building. In late 2007, after the City had already ordered the house vacant, the owner's son told the City that he could not read or write and had no working telephone, but did not want to be forced from the home and was doing everything he could to bring the house up to code.
The house was condemned in August 2008, declared a public nuisance in November 2008 and razed by the City following asbestos abatement.
Where the son ended up is anybody's guess.
