1795 Denham Street, North Fairmount
Single-family
DOB: 1900
Died: July 2009
Cause of death: A severely sagging roof, collapsing chimney, rotted sills and framing, broken windows, and missing siding and protective paint. The property, which had been ordered vacated by the City since at least 2002, was usually littered with trash due to illegal dumping.
The house was condemned in April 2007, and a criminal case was filed that June. In July 2007, the City declared it a public nuisance. A year later, the criminal case was dismissed due to want of prosecution. It seems that neither the owner, who the auditor lists as having a suburban Washington, DC mailing address, nor the lender could be tracked down.
The City razed the house following asbestos abatement. At the time of demolition, the house had an assessed value of $6,200, nearly $4,000 of which was the 0.062 acres on which it sat.
