A beloved local musician shot and killed in a robbery attempt 13 years ago has had an Over-the-Rhine alley renamed in his honor.
Cincinnati City Council voted unanimously to rename Jail Alley, located between Main and Sycamore Streets, for Michael Bany, former bassist for such local bands as the Goshorn Brothers, Wheels, and the Bluebirds.
Bany, 42, died outside of Tommy's on Main, 1427 Main Street, following a show on December 29, 1995.
In 1996, the Michael W. Bany Scholarship Fund was established to help Cincinnati-area students pursue collegiate music studies.
The fund helps produce the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards, one of the scholarship's main fundraisers.
