Waldvogel appropriations passed by committee

Cincinnati City Council's Economic Development Committee has referred to the full council an ordinance to appropriate property for the $64 million Waldvogel Viaduct replacement.

The ordinance, which would allow the City to move four railroad tracks south of River Road and between State Avenue and Evans Street approximately 100 feet south, would impact portions of three properties and two billboards.

Railroad relocation is scheduled to begin in spring 2010.

The Waldvogel Memorial Viaduct Replacement Project will replace the current structure with five new bridges and roadway on grade, and will rebuild River Road to current design standards.

Reconstruction of the roadways is scheduled to begin in spring 2011 and to be completed by the end of 2012.

So far, $50 million in state and federal funding has been secured for the project.

Fifty-thousand motorists use the Waldvogel/River Road corridor daily.
