Half of Bank Street buildings down

Two of the four condemned buildings at 833-839 Bank Street in the West End have been razed, with the others sure to follow.

The buildings, built between 1845 and 1880, have been vacant for many years and had become centers for drug sales, prostitution, and litter dumping.

Apparently, preservation efforts have failed, as have the many criminal cases against building owners Charles Reed and West End Day Care that were never followed through.
