Laughing Brook volunteers needed

The Mill Creek Restoration Project is seeking volunteers to remove weeds from Laughing Brook in Salway Park this Wednesday from 9 AM to noon.

Volunteers will also be treated to a tour of the wetland, public art and environmental education project, which officially opened on May 29.

As part of the City of Cincinnati's Mill Creek Greenway Program, Laughing Brook uses plants and rock layers to cleanse stormwater runoff from the adjacent parking lots and ball fields.

The wetland also contains 100 biosculptures of human hands, fish, and salamanders created by artist Jackie Brookner.

These sculptures will eventually be covered with mosses and liverworts, further cleansing the runoff.

To RSVP, call Lora Alberto at 708-2249 or register online.

Volunteers are asked to meet in the north parking lot of the park, next to the baseball fields.

Work gloves, tools, drinking water and a free Mill Creek T-shirt will be provided.
