Monzel wants garbage can census

Citing the "broken windows" theory, Councilmember Chris Monzel wants an inventory of all of the City's public garbage cans.

In a motion presented to City Council on January 9, Monzel said that litter and trash are contributors to blight, and that cans should be deployed and emptied on a regular and timely basis to help keep neighborhoods "safe, clean, and inviting".

He also requested:

* How often the cans and liners are replaced
* How much the cans cost and where they are purchased
* How many are deployed each year and what the plan is for their distribution
* What the procedure is for emptying the cans
* How often the cans are emptied

All of this information would help form a City garbage can policy, complete with a map of all receptacle locations.

A report is due in early February.
