City considering grant for fire training center

Cincinnati City Council's Finance Committee is considering an application for a federal grant to help build a new community education center and fire training facility.

The $6.5 million Cincinnati Regional Fire Training Center would include an administration building, a fire burn building, a high bay facility, a fire pit and trench rescue, a tower facility and a technical rescue area.

The new, state-of-the-art center would also be available for use by other City departments and emergency organizations from surrounding communities.

Possible locations for the facility include Mill Creek Road in Millvale or near Engine 12/Ambulance 12 at 3001 Spring Grove Avenue (BIRD'S EYE) in Camp Washington.

Funds for the training center were not included in the City's capital budget, but the City is actively working to receive financial support for the project from neighboring communities.

The $346,500 grant would come from U.S. Housing and Urban Development Economic Development Initiative funds.
