Council approves Downtown vet clinic

Cincinnati City Council unanimously approved a notwithstanding ordinance that will allow a veterinarian to relocate his practice from Walnut Hills to Downtown.

Dr. Robert Biederman Jr, DVM will move from the Cincinnati Central Animal Hospital at 650 E McMillan Street to the vacant building at 427 Plum Street (BIRD'S EYE).

Current zoning for the site did not allow for his proposed use, which will be the first veterinary practice to locate Downtown.

There is no word on the future of the Walnut Hills clinic.

City Council's Economic Development Committee will consider today a notwithstanding ordinance that would allow a veterinarian to relocate from Walnut Hills to Downtown.

Dr. Robert Biederman Jr, DVM, who currently practices at the Cincinnati Central Animal Hospital at 650 E McMillan Street, wants to move his practice to 427 Plum Street (BIRD'S EYE) to better serve the growing Downtown population.

The ordinance is necessary because the building is located in Downtown Development District A (DD-A), which does not permit animal services.

Biederman believes that the ordinance should be approved because of the building's proximity to the DD-B zone, which begins south of Perry Street and does allow for such a use.

He has also hired LG Tokarsky and Associates to design the floor plans to address any concerns that Council or neighboring businesses might have with the conditional use.

An internet search shows that no animal hospitals or veterinary services are located within the Cincinnati basin.
