Five artists have been selected to submit initial proposals for the Pendleton Public Art Project, which are due by Feb. 28.
ArtWorks received 77 applications for the public art project that will add sculptural elements along Pendleton Street, at its intersections with E 12th and E 13th streets.
A seven-member design review committee narrowed that number to nine before selecting the semi-finalists, who operate studios in Brooklyn; Oakland; Philadelphia; Portland, Ore.; and Seattle.
A three-month community engagement and design development period will begin next month, with a final design selected this summer. The artwork is scheduled to be dedicated late this year.
Funding for the $215,000 Pendleton Public Art Project comes from the City of Cincinnati, a National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant, and the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.
