Cincinnati City Council has made official its intent to appropriate property for the Vine Street and Erkenbrecher Avenue intersection improvement project.
Passed by a unanimous vote, the City will now be allowed to take six parcels along the eastern side of Vine Street for the $4.6 million enhancement that includes:
* An improved intersection at Vine and Erkenbrecher
* New pavement, curbs, sidewalks, signals and lighting
* Widening to five lanes to accommodate both cars and bicycles
* A continuous left-turn lane on Vine between Nixon Street and Erkenbrecher Avenue
The project is expected to begin this spring and to be completed by December 2008.
Funding for the work comes from a $2.61 million Ohio Public Works Commission grant and City capital funds.
This section of Vine Street is used by 24,000 motorists, buses, bicyclists and pedestrians daily.
