Kind of a slow week in development, but here are a few stories that caught my eye: The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that CPS will not demolish Westwood Elementary, but will renovate it instead. Apparently the cost savings of building new would be negated by the costs to CPS of maintaining the vacated building. Friday's Enquirer Travel section had a writeup of the history behind Covington's Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption. In 2007, the landmark hosted guests from 36 countries and 45 states. The Enquirer reports that the Duck Creek flood control project has received $11.1 million in federal funds. The money, which is part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, will be used for a section of Duck Creek between Madison and Duck Creek roads in Oakley. Montgomery has installed Smart Crosswalks in its historic downtown. When a pedestrian is in a Smart Crosswalk, lights embedded in the pavement are activated to alert oncoming drivers.
