Cincinnati City Council unanimously approved a rezoning that will allow the Ronald McDonald House to expand its Avondale facility.
The rezoning creates a planned development district (PD) for 350 Erkenbrecher Avenue, allowing for the construction of a three-story, 32,000-square-foot addition and 20-car parking garage on land that had previously been zoned for residential use.
The addition would add 32 patient suites to the 48 suites the Ronald McDonald House currently has.
The Ronald McDonald House cares for nearly 1,100 families per year, with a nightly waiting list of between 25 and 50 families.
Last year, 825 families were turned away due to lack of space.
An analysis by Ronald McDonald House Global recommended the addition of 44 suites, which the local board scaled down due to land and budget constraints.
The project proposal will be presented to the Avondale Community Council on Wednesday.
No date has been scheduled for groundbreaking.
