Freelance writer Feoshia Henderson reports in the Kentucky Post that the City of Bellevue has doubled the amount of money that property owners can receive through its Rental Conversion Program.
The program, which began in 2004, allows property owners up to $5,000 for each multi-family rental unit eliminated.
This has resulted in the creation of 20 new single-family homes, mostly along Fairfield Avenue and along Center Street.
The program runs until June 30, or until its $40,000 budget is depleted.
Multi-family properties carved out of what were once single-family homes often conjure up images of unseemly landlords, neglected properties, transient populations and crime.
The goal of this program is to promote more owner-occupied housing.
