Advocates of keeping a deep-water pool and basketball courts as part of the Washington Park redesign are expected to attend today's monthly meeting of the Cincinnati Recreation Commission (CRC).
Arguing that one "cannot learn to swim in a sprinkler", many residents who live around the park are advocating a family-friendly park that serves neighborhood residents of diverse ages and interests, including children and teens whose recreational opportunities are already limited.
The $23 million CRC Final Aquatics Plan, which its board passed in October, proposes three regional aquatics centers, the conversion of 10 existing pools to spraygrounds (including Washington Park and Ziegler in Over-the-Rhine), and the complete elimination of five pools.
The preliminary plan for Washington Park has not been approved by the Cincinnati Park Board.
Cincinnati Recreation Commission monthly meeting, 4 PM, 805 Central Avenue.
