In an effort to gauge community demand for a neighborhood school, the Hyde Park Neighborhood Council (HPNC) has posted an online survey.
The HPNC Education Committee and some neighborhood residents have proposed establishing a neighborhood school and community learning center in the Hyde Park School building at Edwards Road and Observatory Avenue.
Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) closed the school in 2005 and has been using it as a temporary location for Kilgour Elementary, which is undergoing a renovation.
Many of the students of Hyde Park Elementary are now within Kilgour's boundaries, and Kilgour is near capacity in most grades.
Next summer, Kilgour students will move back to their Mount Lookout School, and the Hyde Park building could be vacant for the first time since 1901.
CPS has said that, for the near future, the Hyde Park School will be used as "swing space" and could be used by the Mount Washington School next fall.
The survey is open to people with children in eighth grade or younger and who reside in Hyde Park, Mount Lookout or Oakley.
It will be online until January 5.
