As part of its voting for the 2008 City budget, Cincinnati City Council approved of several changes to the Municipal Code that makes official the split of the Department of Community Development and Planning.
Council took the following actions:
* Modified Article XXIV of the Administrative Code, removing planning functions from the Department of Community Development and Planning and renaming it the Department of Community Development. This amendment also creates within the department a Division of Property Maintenance Code Enforcement.
* Re-instated Article XXV of the Administrative Code, re-establishing the Department of City Planning.
* Repealed Article XXI of the Administrative Code, which had established the Department of Buildings and Inspections. Those functions will now be handled by both the Department of Community Development and the Department of City Planning.
The Department of City Planning had been disbanded in 2002 due to budget cuts, but was recently revived by Mayor Mark Mallory.
Charles C. Graves III began as the department's new director on September 4.
