Metropolitan Design and Development (Metropolitan) is seeking a zoning change that would allow them to build a 6-unit condominium building at 941-951 Monastery Street in Mount Adams.
Current zoning on the six-lot site is SF-2 Single Family, which would only allow for five single-family homes with five curb cuts.
Metropolitan would like the property rezoned to RM-0.7 Residential Multi-Family, which would allow for their multi-unit building with only one curb cut and lower-level parking.
Fewer curb cuts would preserve more on-street parking.
The building itself will not step up the hill, but will gradually decrease in height as the elevation increases to preserve views from above.
The proposal conforms to the Mount Adams Hillside Urban Design and Renewal Plan and has the support of the Mount Adams Civic Association, the Hillside Trust and the City Planning Commission.
The rezoning still needs approval from City Council. It has not yet been scheduled for a hearing in front of the Economic Development Committee.
