A meeting regarding the future of Clark Montessori High School will be held tonight at 7 PM at the Hyde Park School at Observatory and Edwards avenues.
The informational meeting is being held to exchange ideas about Cincinnati Public Schools' (CPS) proposal to tear down the old building at 3030 Erie Avenue and to build a brand new one on the same site.
New calculations released by CPS in September estimate that it would be $2.34 million cheaper to choose replacement over further renovation.
Estimates for renovation do not include LEED-certified work, renovation of the auditorium, or windows for windowless classrooms.
A new building would have all-new mechanicals and would be cheaper to operate and would be ADA compliant. It could also be designed specifically for the Montessori teaching method.
However, federal funding may dictate that a newly-built school may be 50,000 square feet smaller.
Demolition would also mean that all of the money spent so far on renovations will have been wasted.
The meeting is being organized by Amy Gerowitz, who has been working with Clark Montessori to develop a community-oriented learning center for the site.
A renovated or rebuilt Clark is expected to be completed by fall 2010.
