The grants are available through the City Energy Project, a joint venture between the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Institute for Market Transformation that seeks to improve the energy efficiency of buildings in 10 American cities.
The project eventually could be expanded to other municipalities, promoting economic development and reducing pollution.
The grant application deadline is August 30.
No matching funds are required, but Council could vote to disburse funds for personnel if the City is awarded the grant.
