What is design? Here's your chance to chime in

The newly-formed AIA Cincinnati Committee on Design, formed to foster greater community interest in the realm of design, is inviting you to participate in a personal exploration of the design disciplines.

The committee's first venture, "Design is…", invites the public to participate in a campaign in which people can submit – on a single postcard – drawings, poems, paintings, or other interpretations of what the term "design" means to them.

The project draws from the spirit of the Cincinnati Design Awards, an annual event that brings together designers from multiple disciplines such as architecture, landscape architecture, environmental graphic design, branding and packaging, graphic design, and the fine arts.

But the AIA Cincinnati Committee on Design also wants to hear from those who do not call design their profession, but may have an opinion about it. The hope is that the campaign will broaden design dialogue and help build creative energy.

Entries must be postmarked by August 18 and mailed to Postcards – AIA Cincinnati; c/o BHDP Architecture; 302 W Third St, Suite 500; Cincinnati, OH 45202.

More details are available on the committee's website. Questions also can be directed to the committee by e-mail at mailto:postcards@cincinnatidesigncommittee.com, or by calling Tom Arends or Cori Cassidy at (513) 271-1634.

All submissions will be on display throughout Downtown during the month of September.
