In preparation for this year's main event on June 12, volunteers are needed to prepare houses for this year's Paint the Town this Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Volunteers will be scraping, priming, and power washing houses in Cincinnati's Avondale and Evanston neighborhoods to get them ready for the 9th annual community service event, in which more than 1,000 people will go to work painting the exteriors of homes whose owner-occupants are physically or financially unable to do so themselves.
Homes were solicited through an applications process and chosen based on need. Local businesses sponsor each home, and the service is provided at no cost to homeowners.
In addition to beautifying individual homes, the goal is to create a catalyst effect by encouraging more neighborhood homeowners to make improvements.
The Avondale and Evanston community councils are serving as this year's community partners.
Two additional prep days are scheduled for May 22 and June 5. Volunteers are asked register through the Give Back Cincinnati website. Lunch will be provided.
Since its founding, Paint the Town has painted a total of 202 homes in eight Greater Cincinnati communities.
