Xavier approves new 535-bed residence hall

Xavier University's board of trustees took steps to address its growing enrollment during its quarterly meeting on December 11.

The board approved the construction of a new 240,000-square-foot residence hall and dining complex, which can accommodate housing units for approximately 535 sophomores.

To be located near existing residence halls, the Gallagher Student Center, and Bellarmine Chapel, the building will also include a new dining hall with a seating capacity of up to 800, which will replace the Hoff Marketplace at Cintas Center.

Work is scheduled to begin early next year with the demolition of four houses at Ledgewood Drive and Herald Avenue, and the new building is scheduled for occupancy in time for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Construction on the remainder of the James E. Hoff Academic Quadrangle – including the Williams College of Business, the Conaton Learning Commons, and new central utility plant – is scheduled for completion next fall.
