Wrecking Cincinnati, 2/4/09

4141 Witler Street, Northside
Two-family
DOB: 1879
Died: November 2008
Cause of death: A failed main beam, causing the rear half of the structure to be structurally unsound. Much of the siding became detached from the building and was encroaching on the public right-of-way, a problem that only got worse during the September wind storm. There was also evidence of heavy rot on exposed wooden structural members.

The building was vacated by the City in 2004. The building owners considered renovation, and even brought in a potential new owner. When compliance on the building orders was not reached, a criminal case was filed.

The City condemned it in February 2008. The owner razed the building privately shortly before it was declared a public nuisance, and was entered into a compliance program after pleading no contest in the court case.
