Burned out College Hill building will be razed

A burned out building at the corner of Hamilton and Marlowe avenues in College Hill's business district will be razed by March 1, according to the College Hill eNewsletter.

The building was condemned last May because of extensive fire damage and roof failure, and, at a public nuisance hearing held on January 23, a Cincinnati firefighter testified that the building was a fire hazard because open holes in the siding would allow another fire to spread quickly.

Mike DeVoto, one of the owners, says that the inside has been gutted, utilities have been turned off, and that the building is secured.

Demolition will begin as soon as the building passes an asbestos inspection.

The College Hill eNewsletter also reports that the neighboring Evan Ramsey Florist building and a rear building, currently used as a church, will remain.

At the time of the fire, the building was occupied by a barber shop and an insurance agency.
