The results are in for two recent surveys conducted by the Pleasant Ridge Community Council.
The surveys are part of a concerted effort by the community to strengthen its existing businesses and to attract new tenants to the neighborhood business district.
A recent query about grocery-buying habits produced 296 responses with the following results:
* 97 percent would shop at a neighborhood market
* 92 percent said that locally-grown produce, if fresh, is important
* 86 percent would shop at a neighborhood market for staple items
* 73 percent said that a walkable neighborhood grocer is important
* 62 percent would join a food co-op
* 61 percent said that organic products are important to them
* 37 percent would patronize a local market 5 or more times a month, and 31 percent would visit 4 times a month
* 283 people listed important factors that would determine their likelihood of shopping at a local market
* 264 people listed products they would like a neighborhood market to carry
Another survey about local clothes-buying habits produced only 170 responses, with these results:
* 81 percent would shop at stores that feature local designers
* 71 percent have shopped at a consignment store
* 48 percent of people would purchase items in the $20-$30 range, and 38 percent would purchase items in the $30-$50 range
* 40 percent of people would like for a shop to open at 10 AM, and 24 percent would like to see one that opens at 11 AM
* 65 percent of people would like for a shop that stays open until 8 PM, and 25 percent would like to see one that stays open until 6 PM
* 144 people listed clothing items and accessories that they would be likely to purchase
* 116 people listed consignment stores they have patronized
* 49 people claimed that they are local designers, and one in seven said that they would be interested in selling their work
There are no current surveys being conducted.
