The Pleasant Ridge Community Council (PRCC) and community members are seeking the City's assistance for improvements at the 9-acre Pleasant Ridge Park on Ridge Avenue.
The proposed improvements, estimated to cost $351,689 to complete, would include an environmental walking path, a series of rain gardens and a rooftop garden on the community center's filter house.
The rain gardens would include perennial plants, shrubs, and trees that would help divert water runoff.
A preliminary site plan has been prepared by Vivian Llambi & Associates, Inc.
In a letter sent to Vice Mayor David Crowley in support of the project, Janet Teske stresses the park's importance to the community.
"Pleasant Ridge Park is within walking distance to our business district and 3 elementary schools," she says. "The Park site sits next to the Pleasant Ridge/Kennedy Heights Community Center. This is the centerpiece of our community."
Teske says that there are many things they hope to gain from the improvements, including creating an outdoor learning space, making it a demonstration site for other communities to learn from, expanding outdoor opportunities for citizens, and establishing Pleasant Ridge as an environmentally sound community.
Teske hopes that the City will not only back their efforts in principle, but also help them identify funding.
A report from the Office of the City Manager is due before City Council in early August.
