Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Franklin Park couple clashes with Google over privacy

Less than one year after rolling out their Google Maps Street View feature, the Internet giant is facing its first lawsuit on the application.

Aaron and Christine Boring, residents of Pittsburgh's Franklin Park neighborhood, have filed a lawsuit against Google in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas in which they claim that the photographers trespassed onto their private lane without their permission.

Aside from possible monetary compensation for the Borings and a greater awareness of private roads by Google, the case isn't expected to cause any changes in Street View.

For now, the photos in question have been blacked out.

As a society, we generally have very unrealistic expectations of public privacy, often hearing talk of "Big Brother" and other such nonsense.

In this case, however, Google has crossed the line by entering private property, providing images that could only be seen if breaking the law.
