Hartford Courant: A garden in the sky?

Urban dweller? No yard?

Why not plant a rooftop garden?

The April 11 Hartford Courant profiles Vivian DeZwager, a South Tacoma, Washington woman who did just that when her husband's woodworking hobby took over the family yard.

The story provides step-by-step instructions on installing your own green roof, including the very important step of having your project evaluated by a licensed engineer!

Cincinnati's urban core provides thousands of opportunities for green roofs with its many flat and gently-sloped rooftops.

As I was standing on the rooftop of the Brooklyn Townhomes with the building owner discussing this very topic, I couldn't help but imagine all of the surrounding homes' impermeable, light-reflecting rooftops being replaced with abundant green.
