The Street: To mandate or encourage smart growth?

Where do Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama stand on smart growth?

In a post on the Street blog from the Next American City, Mike Muller highlights a few of their positions on issues such as infrastructure, transportation funding, and urban revitalization grants.

Both are cosponsoring a bill that would create a National Infrastructure Bank, and smart growth principles might be taken into account when deciding which projects would be financed.

Funds for urban renewal projects and public transportation would also be contingent on project sustainability, according to their platforms.
