You can learn about Cincinnati's rich brewing history and explore historic brewery buildings at the Prohibition Resistance Tour this Saturday and Sunday in Over-the-Rhine.
In celebration of Bockfest, the Brewery District Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (BDCURC) is opening the doors to the neighborhood's remaining brewery buildings, including the John Hauck Dayton Street Brewery, the Clyffside Brewery, the Jackson Brewery, the Christian Moerlein Brewery, and the never-before-seen sub-basements and tunnels of the Kaufmann Brewery.
Part of the two-and-a-half hour bus tour also includes a visit to the John Hauck House Museum, a restored mansion of the former brewer that contains original antiques, furnishings, and brewing memorabilia.
For a historical perspective, Christian Moerlein Brewing Company CEO Greg Hardman will tell the story of Christian Moerlein's travels from his native Germany to brewing fame, and how his story is symbolic of the rise of Cincinnati.
Bus tours will depart from the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal beginning at 10 AM on Saturday and at 11 AM on Sunday, with the final bus departing at 3 PM both days.
Admission for the event is $30. To purchase tickets or to volunteer, visit the BDCURC website. Further information can be obtained at info@otrbrewerydistrict.org or by calling (513) 604-9812.
Tour participants will receive a one-year admission voucher to the Cincinnati History Museum's exhibit on Cincinnati brewing history as well as Christian Moerlein beer tickets that can be redeemed at Bockfest Hall.
This year's event is sponsored by the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, Christian Moerlein Brewing Company, Comey & Shepherd Realtors and the John Hauck House Museum.
In 2006, nearly 500 people participated in the tour, which is one of the main fundraisers for the BDCURC.
