The Ground Floor: An election about change, but not for housing policy yet

As we inch closer to electing our next president, urban-themed blogs continue to buzz about where the candidates stand on the key issues that can make or break our cities.

In the Ground Floor, a blog from the Urban Land Institute, a recent post reviews the housing proposals available on the campaign websites of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John McCain.

Both of the Democratic candidates endorse crackdowns on predatory mortgage brokers and other fixes for the foreclosure crisis, as well a national affordable housing trust fund. Obama also supports fully funding the Community Development Block Grant program.

McCain's campaign website includes no proposals on housing.

The United States is currently losing more affordable housing than it can produce, a problem exacerbated by the rapid increase in foreclosures.
