The growth of cities is not just a problem for local governments and urban planners, but is inseparable from major political and economic forces.
So argues The Endless City, a new book edited by Ricky Burdett and Deyan Sudjic and profiled in BusinessWeek by writer Matt Vella.
The purpose of the book, writes Vella, is to explore through essays the idea of rapidly-growing cities as sources of mutual strength, rather than estrangement, bitterness, and inequality.
The book is the result of four years of meetings, conferences and collaborations by an informal working group called the Urban Age Project, consisting of nearly 40 architects, planners, designers and academics.
