"Clean, Green and Serene" will be the theme at the sixth annual Neighborhood Summit this Saturday at the Cintas Center on the Xavier University campus.
Elected officials will work with community leaders on topics in the four core areas of crime and safety, environment, community development, and "general" knowledge.
Sixteen sessions will be offered, including:
* Developing a neighborhood safety plan
* The power of communities in fighting crime
* What the failure of the "jail tax" means to communities
* Two approaches to reducing gun violence
* Crime prevention by environmental changes
* Building green to renew a neighborhood
* Recycling
* Community gardens
* Fighting the effects of foreclosures
* Community learning centers
* Engaging state and local officials
* Using zoning to revitalize neighborhoods
* Grant writing
* Liquor licenses
* Engaging new groups and bringing them into community life
* City budget basics
The session-based format also allows for networking opportunities that can be helpful to communities long after the event is over.
Hamilton County Coroner Dr. O'dell Owens will be the featured speaker at a kickoff dinner Friday evening.
The Neighborhood Summit is produced by the City of Cincinnati, Invest in Neighorhoods, Inc. and the Community Building Institute with support from Xavier University, PNC Bank and the Seasongood Good Government Foundation.
