City Manager Milton Dohoney has submitted an ordinance seeking clarification on the requirements for tax exemptions applied to LEED-certified construction and rehabilitation.
Earlier this year, City Council passed an ordinance allowing for property tax exemption on any new construction or building rehabilitation that met the U.S. Green Building Council's standards for LEED certification.
Dohoney wants to clarify the ordinance to include the following:
* Industrial developments are also eligible.
* The maximum number of years for tax exemption for all remodeled commercial, industrial and multi-family properties is twelve.
* Tax exemptions for commercial, industrial and multi-family properties must be approved by City Council.
Tax exemptions are administered through the City's Community Reinvestment Area program.
Dohoney's ordinance has been passed to City Council's Health, Environment and Education Committee.
